Listen Out (Rap)
by Sian Williams

So you’s got a new i-phone with playlist in zillions
you’re joining the billions millions an trillions
of dudes just like you playing it cool stuff school
and its teachers tryin make you look a fool out you.
So last week so yestday year yawn
everythin’s here dude don’t need no scorn
of dat official learnin points grades an stars
I’m the star baby of ma own universe.
Got a new tablet don need no phone but hey man
I loves it can’t leave it alone so na I’m plugged into
em both that’s for sure double the stimulation
bring her on more. Dodge the strangulation of wires
jacks and such mebbe they’ll come up with some
remote touch in the near future not askin too much.
Teachers mouthin at me sompin important
I nods ma head and looks back in engrossment
she nods back and beckons me to the front
to tell what the heck she’s a talkin about.
I’s stuck to explain so’s I leaps on a table
and does a mean break of this I is able
the kids roar and shout and all freak about
so the lesson turns out a bachannal all out.
On ma ways back to ma crib there’s a railtrack crossin
the train aint comin yet so’s I aint fussin at the red light
shinin at me. I open’s the gate I’ll hear it says I.
Thens a remember ma’s warnin to me.
Every day she reminds me reminds me every day
she reminds me but I’s so absorbed in my personal IT
I cleans forget to take out ma earphones d’ya see
so don hear no train comin at me –
other sounds goin roun roun roun in ma brain.
I feels in ma bones its presence in time
to duck off the line duck off the line
an save ma own skin
or mebbe there’s time to fit in a selfie
fit in a selfie fit in a selfie
Mebbe’s time to fit in a selfie an get over the line
get over the line get over the line in time.
