Cigarette Butts, Poetry by Rebeccah Pope

Genre: Family

Cigarette Butts

My father made me.
Sculpted me out of the cigarette butts he & my mother left
outside the bar where they met.
Each butt falling,
landing
& forming
their foundation.
Accumulating,
into child after
child after child.
Children to sit at his feet.
Tugging at his heart
until he removed the strings.
