7 Questions with Poetry Writer Matthew Carter

Today, let’s get to know poetry writer Matthew Carter better. We just showcased his poem called AWKWARD at our recent festival.

1) What is the theme of your poem?

It is an introspective surreal poem of self-reflection.

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

I want the people watching or reading my poem to place themselves in the poem. I think it speaks to many people.

3) How long have you been writing poetry?

I have been writing it since about middle school.

4) Do you have a favorite poet?

Emily Dickinson is definitely my favorite and Walt Whitman is second.

5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

My fiancé Amy Santos. She has been a great inspiration to me and when I feel like I am at my wits end and can’t go on she is there for me no matter what.

6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?

I have written short stories as well, and I would like to write a script in the future. I write horror and thrillers as well. My psychological thriller is called Liquid Soul and I have a poetry book called Fearing the Invisible Invincible.

7) What is your passion in life?

I have several passions in life. Writing is a big passion of mine and the art of creating something just by thoughts that enter my mind is big to me. Also, I am currently in college to get a Master’s Degree in special education for the Cognitively Impaired. I thoroughly enjoy working with those who have special needs because they have so much to offer.
