Today, let’s get to know poetry writer Matthew Carter better. We just showcased his poem called AWKWARD at our recent festival.
Watch the poetry reading here. Performed by actress Val Cole:
1) What is the theme of your poem?
It is an introspective surreal poem of self-reflection.
2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?
I want the people watching or reading my poem to place themselves in the poem. I think it speaks to many people.
3) How long have you been writing poetry?
I have been writing it since about middle school.
4) Do you have a favorite poet?
Emily Dickinson is definitely my favorite and Walt Whitman is second.
5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
My fiancé Amy Santos. She has been a great inspiration to me and when I feel like I am at my wits end and can’t go on she is there for me no matter what.
6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
I have written short stories as well, and I would like to write a script in the future. I write horror and thrillers as well. My psychological thriller is called Liquid Soul and I have a poetry book called Fearing the Invisible Invincible.
7) What is your passion in life?
I have several passions in life. Writing is a big passion of mine and the art of creating something just by thoughts that enter my mind is big to me. Also, I am currently in college to get a Master’s Degree in special education for the Cognitively Impaired. I thoroughly enjoy working with those who have special needs because they have so much to offer.
