Watch Poetry reading of TO MY LITTLE ONE by June Helen Fleming:
Get to know June Helen Fleming:
Matthew: What is the theme of your poem?
June: I wrote this poem when I was very sad because my daughter Rhonda left her first year attending the University of Tennessee to marry a young man she met while she was attending high school in Sterling Virginia. We had a beautiful wedding for her, and then they moved to Florida with our blessings. I left her bedroom door closed and could not go in her room I missed her so much.
Matthew: How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?
June: I wanted to share my disappointment and sadness with others, because when my emotions overcame me a poem will come from the situation that caused it. I can always read my poem throughout the years and know what brought me to write it. I would like people who read my poem to feel my sadness, as I felt it.
Matthew: How long have you been writing poetry?
June: I have been writing poetry for twenty years.
Matthew: Do you have a favorite poet?
June: It is hard for me to say who my favorite poet is, because there are so many I like. Emily Dickenson comes to mind because she was a nature writer, I love her poem “The Sun Just Touched the Morning,” and Robert Frost wrote a poem I can never forget,” Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Both these poems I connect with me. I love morning because it is so peaceful before the world starts to come alive, and a snowy evening is so beautiful to me. I can picture big snowflakes descending to create a wonderland of nature.
Matthew: What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
June: I wanted to submit my poem to WILDsound, because I wanted to share my poem with the world so others could experience the emotions that made me write the poem. I knew WILDsound would do a beautiful video of my poem for others to enjoy, and capture my feelings.
Matthew: Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
June: I write screenplays, short stories, essays, poetry and children stories.
Matthew: What is your passion in life?
June: My passion in life is to keep writing whatever brings out a true story that is worthy of being told. I like true stories because the past lives of my family interest me. I want to leave a legacy of the past for my children and their children so they will know where they came from, and how hard a life they faced. My love for writing is so strong it is hard for me, and very disappointing that my time is so limited that I can’t write when I want to. I have to write during late hours because I am afraid I will never have enough time to write a poem or a story that needs to be told.
