Watch the Video Pitch for this Epic Fantasy Feature Film by Pavel Petrovich
Get to know writer Pavel Petrovich:
1. What is your story about?
Pavel: Well, it’s an epic fantasy saga which follows the tales of the world of Ardia from its beginning to its dire end. It is centered on the wars against the rebelled mages led by Lord Ferion Lease and the two forces of the world, the Future and the Past, as they battle for the dominance of the only source of power and life: The Sun. That’s the broad story of the entire saga which has 7 parts while the first part, Somewhere In-Between, focuses on the quests and journeys of Raleen, Laniya and their companions who are in search of hidden and dangerous secrets left behind by a forgotten race and kingdom. Raleen tries to find an artifact of life-giving powers to save his wife Helena, while Laniya hunts for the watery demon Unek.
2. Why should do people need to read/watch this story?
Pavel: I believe that we’ll never develop all of the ideas and plots and that every story should be considered, of course if it’s good and enough time was invested in it to make it fleshed-out. Those who LOVE fantasy should check out this saga, it has interesting and in-depth story and they might even love the setting and some of the characters. The rest, I’ll leave for the viewers to discover.
3. How long have you been writing stories?
Pavel: I’ve been writing from my 7th year of life, when I learned only half of the Serbian alphabet and I’ve been doing it ever since, mostly in English as it’s nearly my second mother tongue. If asked when did I start developing stories, it was before my 7th year, I can’t remember.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
Pavel: That would be The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I watched it nearly 25 times. Why? Because I LOVE fantasy and LotR is one of the best written stories in terms of depth. LotR movies were those that got me interested completely in cinema, but there were those before them like Merlin from Hallmark and others.
5. What artists would you love to work with?
Pavel: That’s a big question. I’d mostly love to work with great producers and directors, even actors, to bring stories to life. It doesn’t necessarily have to be James Cameron or Peter Jackson, but anyone with whom you can make a successful future.
6. How many stories have you written?
Pavel: 50 or more 🙂 . From trilogies, sagas to 1-part stories, I’ve written and created in nearly every genre. The biggest I’ve written is The Return of Ferion saga, Most wanted trilogy and a sci-fi trilogy Future Perfect. I only wrote a screenplay for Ferion, for the rest I’ll write them when I succeed and find more time.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Pavel: I would like to write and assist maybe in the direction of at least a couple of my stories and, ideally, get some awards and get to Hollywood. That’s the dream.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
Pavel: Well I spend a lot of time developing a story and usually wait until it’s “mature” enough to start writing. I make a brief outline and then I start writing from the beginning, one part at a time. I try to make the script flow without many changes to the writing style, so I usually complete a script in 3-5 week, then I edit it.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Pavel: Video games 🙂 . Animals 🙂 . And traveling a bit. I’ve been playing video games my entire life and would like to make a new video game series (for which I already somewhat developed the story, mechanics etc.), preferably in the MMORPG genre, and have it produced and published. I’m a pet owner my entire life.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival?
Pavel: I heard about it on ISA Contests and immediately entered since it was a unique approach to helping screenwriters succeed. I hoped, and still hope, that I’ll be able to find the right person to continue making my dreams a reality.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Pavel: Yes, a couple: Write and develop a very good story, in-depth, and when you feel it’s “ready” then start writing the script. It can take from 6 months to years. Second, NEVER give up. There are times when it’s simply not going but continue that road and one day it will succeed. It has to. Be active and always try your best to get your story out there, one good way is of course screenwriting contests like WILDSound for instance.
