Watch the Video Pitch for MRS. CHIPPY & THE CREW:
Get to know writer Angela Curry:
1. What is your story about?
The story is about a teacher (Mrs. Chippy) who has a mentoring program. She not only mentors children within the community. She has mentoring moments not only with the children in the community but mentoring moments with children at Acorn Elementary.
Mrs. Chippy is a sweet, funny and spunky. Since she has no children she likes to pour words of wisdom and lessons for life into the children. She sometimes gets flack from other teachers because she keeps helping the children going beyond limitations and the norm.
2. Why should people know about yourself and your story?
The times we live in are more important now to mentor children. The generation of children, teenagers and young adults deal with situations and issues that may be more complex those generations before them. We often tell children what they should do but don’t “listen” to what they have to say. You really learn about the child and what kind of mindset they have. Children have a voice not to disrespect others, but to know their heart, their viewpoint and create conversation. Creating dialogue, conversation you listen, they listen. You could eliminate some misunderstandings, negative emotions and unresolved situations. Mentoring moments give them a learning curve will help them to not continue a family or ancestral cycle of problems. For example if there’s a cycle of teen pregnancy in a family someone should have a mentoring moment accompanied with a positive role model. The cycle can shift into a new cycle of blessings by doing well in school, graduating college and living the dream, destiny. They can learn they can make a positive difference in the world.
3. How long have you been writing stories?
I just started the end of last year implementing the story ideas. It is a leap of faith.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
One Night with the King which is a story about the book of Esther.
5. Who would you like to collaborate with on a creative project?
I would like to collaborate with Stephen Spielberg and Tyler Perry.
6. How many stories/screenplays have you written?
This is my first screenplay.
7. What motivated you to write this story?
The needs for a balance of animated stories that are not only filled with humor but teach a lesson that children can apply to their daily life.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I love to write either early in the morning or late evening when it is quiet. I write about 1-2 hours sometimes more. I flow with the current of creativity. It is better not to force it when it tapers off. I’ve learned it could cause a block and lose effectiveness.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I am passionate about preparing children for their future, feeding those that are hungry and ministering to women and girls who have been hurt.
10. What influenced you to have your story made into a video pitch?
I believe that it will inspire others to mentor, motivate and encourage children to be the best while enjoying every step of their journey in life. I want them to get the lesson and laugh to living their dreams.
