Watch the Short Story Reading of PERNOD:
Short Story Read by actress Maya Woloszyn
Get to know writer Lionel Walfish:
1. What is your short story about?
My short story is about an imaginary cat, whose sole intent is wrecking havoc.
2. Why should this story be read by people?
I believe that my short story will have universal appeal and that readers will identify with the human characters.
3. How long have you been writing stories?
I have been writing all of my adult life.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Strangers On A Train’.
5. Do you think this novel could be adapted into a movie?
I think that ‘PERNOD’ can be expanded, and would certainly make a great flic!
6. How many stories have you written?
I have written dozens of short stories, and two novels.
7. What motivated you to write this novel?
I have always been intrigued by the silent intelligence of cats.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I do not have a set routine, but always carry a pen and small writing pad with me. An idea can be lost, if I do not make note of it immediately. Then it’s sit down and write (long-hand) from beginning to end.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I am passionate about film, theatre and classical music.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival? What was your feelings on the initial feedback your received?
Wildsound Festival was recommended by a very dear friend, who in fact, brought me to a meeting, several years ago.
She alerted me to the Wildsound site a year ago, and I submitted a 140 word short short story, and was pleased to learn that when published, it had placed within the top ten.
The feedback for PERNOD was terrific. Under it’s guidance, I reconstructed the entire story, and made it what it is, today.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Sit down and write, and rewrite until it’s done.
