Poem
by Annie Wood
i do more than follow the sun
i embrace it like a returning soldier back from war
that famous photo.
the pretty, young wife, dipped backwards as her handsome solider husband kisses her.
the war is over.
he’s home. he’s safe.
now their life can begin.
each time i feel the pangs of suffering, i close my eyes and push through the heat so i can embrace the sun.
i know the warmth and the light will brighten me up from the inside.
and the war is over.
and i can be home.
and i can be safe.
and my life can begin again.
i love poetry because in poetry you can kiss the sun and never get burned.
