Get to know writer Peter L Brown:
1. What is your story about? It is about a group of highly-trained paramilitary personnel who inhabit a near future world set on the home soil of the United States after a world war that has decimated a major portion of the world. The world has been able to save a portion of the remaining infrastructure and seemingly go back to normal. But deep underneath this new life boils the opposition that wants to take it down can claim the rest of the world for their own. 2. Why should people know this story? People should know about this story because even in the time of strive and conflict, people can still survive and live their lives in some sense of normalcy. Ideals that made this country great can still thrive. And still even have a laugh. 3. This story has a lot going for it. How would you describe this story in two words? Ex Nihilo. 4. What movie have you seen the most in your life? That is a tough question. I am an avid film watcher. I recently took some time out of my busy life to sit down and get a general estimate of how many films I have watched in my life. Excluding complete or incomplete TV series and TV movies, I have watched over 3000 films in my life. There are a handful of films I have seen three or four times but again they are a variety of comedies, sci-fi, fantasy, drama and adventure films. 5. How long have you been working on this story? I have, in fact, been working on this story since the mid-1980’s. I got this idea back then. Worked on it with a couple of my friends or a few points. Researched locations. Wrote the first two drafts in under three months. But then life got me distracted. I put the story on a shelf but never let it be forgotten. I have even created set designs and equipment concepts that would and could be integrated into the story/film 6. How many stories have you written? During my life, I have written five complete screenplays. Published a short story, EUDOXUS AND COVER at Pro-Se Productions. Self-published two children’s books, one illustrated (COQUI AND THE RED CONVERTIBLE) and one photographed by myself (CC TEDDY GOES TO NEW YORK. Wrote another small book series of eight stories that I will be illustrating at some point in the near future. In addition, planning a few other children’s books but those are still in outline phase. Broke the basic stories of five other screenplays but they are still in the outline stage. Created a small comic book universe of over 250 characters that got to basic visualization stage. A graphic novel, I am still editing and laying out to draw and self-publish. Even working out the development stage of characters of my own creation into different animated TV series. 7. What motivated you to write this story? At first, my friends. Then, I will admit, I watched a film called MegaForce. That was the small seed that was planted in the back of my brain. Then, with all the incidents of war and governmental strife throughout the world. I decided to make it an adventure but still even in drama, one can find fun and comedy and included some near future technology to help one relate that this very well could happen. 8. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about? I am a freelance illustrator and cartoonist. Just finished doing illustration for a book coming out later this year. I write and illustrate my own multitude of characters that live within my creativity. Most people stop. Me, my mind is always going 24/7/365. Even when I may be doing other daily mundane tasks, subconsciously I am always working out issues, design or concepts with my creations. And when I can find the time I put it down on paper or input it into my computer. 9. Any advice or tips you'd like to pass on to other writers? I’ll put it simply. Never give up on something you feel passionate about.
