Get to know the writer:
What is your screenplay about?
Take Two is about a Hollywood heartthrob who decides to focus on a charity event after a very public breakup with his on again, off again girlfriend. After a poor decision on his part to invite his fans to the last minute event, he gives a special fan a once in a life time chance to meet her Celebrity obse-… Crush.
What genres does your screenplay under?
Dramedy but very heavy on the comedy.
Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
It’s a different take on the life of a celebrity and their fans when really the celebrity wants to live a normal life.
How would you describe this script in two words?
Since I assume ‘very good’ or ‘pretty funny’ are out of the question, I’ll go with ‘mediacentric fable’
What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
The one movie that I have seen numerous times and can watch on repeat many many many more time is ‘The Reduced Shakespeare Company Presents: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged’.
How long have you been working on this screenplay?
This is about form…6 of this particular script. It started out as a stage play that I didn’t have any specific guidelines and training and after many many many re-writes and reading and learning, this is the new and much better form.
How many stories have you written?
I have honestly lost track. I’ve been writing since I was in second grade and luckily with each year, the writing got better.
What motivated you to write this screenplay?
The idea came across actually when one of my favorite actors actually tweeted about inviting fans to come join him at a charity event at one of their family members restaurants. It started out as a ‘what if I had gone’ sort of idea and it kinda snowballed from there.
What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
Honestly, the main obstacle was getting the idea out of my head and onto paper. I knew point A and point B but it was how to get it there.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I love the performing arts in general. I was a tap dancer for 10 years, I did theatre all through high school and college, I have been in different choirs and have sung opera.
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
The biggest tip is to not give up. This is a tough thing to stick with when you grow sick and tired of your own words, characters, and stories when you’re working on re-writing it.
Second tip is to keep learning. Don’t think that you know it all. There are parts of writing that can’t be taught but there is always room to learn and grow. My writing did a complete 180 after I took a screenwriting course. Yeah it was online and I had thought it was just for fun… but I learned so much in such a short amount of time.
