Retired after about 20 years from the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Law runs in the family: His father was a lawyer. Both of his sons practiced law as well.

Briefly dated Lana Turner in high school, when she was still known as Judy Turner.

Has three children and numerous grandchildren.

Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6922 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on November 12, 2009.
