  1. Happy Birthday John Mahoney

On Frasier he played Martin Crane
Who was forced to make use of a cane
    From a bullet he took
In the hip from a crook
Down the highway from Everett and Blaine

John was born in Great Britain this day
But he moved to the U. S. of A.
Where he trained in the arts
    Then auditioned for parts
That he hoped he’d be chosen to play

    In season eleven of ‘Cheers’
As Sy Flembeck he had us in tears
    With a jingle he sang
For Miss Howe and the gang
To promote more imbibing of beers

In ‘Moonstruck’ he played a professor
Who was keen for some sexual pleasure
    From a student he taught
    He cajoled her a lot
But did not get a chance to undress her

In ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’ he played
A young man in the newspaper trade
    In ‘Love Hurts’, playing Boomer
    He showcased his humor
He also was seen in ‘Betrayed’

But by far the best role of his life
In a series of comical strife
    Was as Frasier’s old man
    Drinking beer from a can
And bemoaning the loss of his wife

For eleven great years John Mahoney
Played a fellow who drank with his cronies
    At a tavern named Duke’s
    Watching football and hoops
Far away from his sons, who were phonies

So we wish Happy Birthday to John
Who co-starred in a brilliant sitcom
    That got glowing reviews
    Now he’s yesterday’s news
Much like Tony Orlando and Dawn
