Director Biography

He is a writer/director currently pursuing his MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University. His short films have screened in domestic international film festivals including the Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Cannes Short Film Corner. Most recently, his short film “Foreign Sounds” won the grand prize for best student film at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Director Statement

Eric Shahinian enjoys writing slice-of-life, character-driven dramas with a naturalistic aesthetic. Common themes that he explores in his work are interpersonal tensions, miscommunication, loneliness, and conflicts in beliefs and identity. He is passionate about creating complex characters with a rich inner-life and is eager to continue honing his craft and deepening his understanding of storytelling.
