The main character, Michael Wenders, has had visions of a comet made of blue light coming to Earth since he was twelve years old. He also had visions of the “monster” it would bring with it. He knew his life would be intertwined with its arrival and he became a scientist to prepare for its coming. When the comet finally arrives, his obsession takes over his life and nearly ends it.
- Why should people know this story?
The team of biological researchers that Michael belongs to recover the winged alien from a lake in Northern California. They are diverse to say the least: a religious fanatic who has conversations with his computer, an empath, a Holocaust survivor, a Russian defector and a scientist who escaped a childhood of poverty and abuse.
