Marlowe is a brown, Virginia field mouse that moves into the farm house where he meets eleven-year-old Cole who thinks he is an alien and teaches him to speak and wear a suit. In the end, Marlowe saves Cole and a small conclave of humans and animals from the appetite of a voracious virus that kills almost all animal life on the planet in less than a year.
