Director Biography – Katherine McRae (WATER BABY)

Katherine started as an actress and theatre director before moving into directing for the screen. She worked full-time for production company South Pacific Pictures for seven years, directing Shortland Street, Nothing Trivial and Go Girls. In 2017 she directed episodes of Filthy Rich. Katherine’s NZ Film Commission funded short film Abandon Ship has screened at festivals including Toronto’s TIFF Kids Film Festival 2016 and at the LA International Women’s Film Festival.

Before collaborating together on Water Baby in 2019, producer Migiwa Ozawa and Katherine shot a short documentary for television about Cook Island singer Willy Crummer and his daughter Annie at a music festival in Malaysia in 2012.

Katherine also teaches screen-acting and screen-directing, continues to direct theatre and act, most recently in the telefeature Catching the Black Widow and in the feature film Vai.
