Monyova, 55min., Czechia
Directed by Zuzana Kirchnerová
Simona always defied the ideas of the perfect woman – she was too interesting. You would easily find just such a bon mot or paradox in the books of one of the best-selling writers in the Czech Republic after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. In the 1990s, Simona Monyová achieved one of the most fairy-tale career rises – from an ordinary apartment building in Brno to the top of the charts and magazine covers. Her books were funny, romantic, and sarcastic, and their author became a symbol of Czech literature for women. This was also because her charisma and much-discussed private life gave rise to speculation about how much of her writing was inspired by her personal life.

Eventually, we accept the weaknesses in ourselves, overcome the obstacle and gain confidence again.

In a darkly comic exploration of faith, temptation, and redemption, a young priest, after hearing a congregant’s confession of infidelity, finds himself spiraling into his own tangle of lust and hypocrisy. As he navigates a series of increasingly lascivious and morally ambiguous situations, from internet ads to sushi bars, his struggle with his seductive demons and the search for salvation leads him to a startling revelation of human frailty and the quest for divine forgiveness.
