SOPRANOS Pilot episode: Deep dive into the first episode of the iconic series

WILDsound CEO Matthew Toffolo takes a deep dive into the Pilot episode of The Sopranos that aired in January 1999.

  • Change from the “selling product” industry of television to high quality “we will purchase” the show industry. Renting The Sopranos at the video story on VHS.
  • The change of the audience not caring whether the main character is a good guy or not. We just wanted characters who were real.
  • Not wanting to see a TV show or movie sell out and give us a happy ending and wrap up an unrealistic finale in the last 20 minutes and wrap things up.
  • The evil mother plot that excited many people because….many people also had an evil mother.
  • Tony lives in self-pity. The pilot episode reveals the entire series from the start. Tony can’t get better because he blames eveyone else for his issues and not himself.
