Interview with Roberto Lezzi:
1. What is your screenplay about?
“The particular day” is a dark story about an unusual dog walking alone in a small square, thinking and reflecting about its ‘particular day’ that finally comes in a very unexpected way. It is a thin reflection on slavery through the use of rhetorical form.
2. Why should this script be made into a movie?
This story takes the viewer attached to his chair in a crescendo of emotions and thoughts to the end. It is ironic and deep at the same time. You smile and think about the condition of the human soul through the eyes of a dog, a metaphor of a modern slave. I think it is suited to be realized also as a cartoon in the style of movies like “Valzer with Bashir”.
3. How long have you been writing stories?
I started a few years ago, following my passion for writing. I attended a screenwriting course in Italy and wrote several short film scripts just waiting to be made into movies.
I also have a blog, http://www.robertolezzi.it, where I published short stories and poems (in Italian but now looking for collaborators to translate into English and spread them everywhere). I also wrote a novel, “Chantilly Cream”, in search of an agent for the publication, and I started the second one. In short, Agent Wanted! Hurry!
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
My tastes range from the saga of “Back to the Future” to “Into the wild”. I think it’s important to “taste” everything to find their own style.
5. What artists would you love to work with?
My compatriot Paolo Sorrentino, director of “Great Beauty” and 2014 Oscar Award as best foreign movie. I think he is a master at creating characters out of the ordinary. I like also Martin Scorsese. As actors, Al Pacino.
6. How many stories/screenplays have you written?
I write a lot, but just as much. Short screenplays, plays for theater, short stories, poetry and a novel. I also wrote a film script entitled “God never run”, but what I’m most proud of is all that I have not yet written (and will be even more).
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
At the top of the charts of best-selling books of all time with my first novel “Chantilly Cream” and, at the same time, with my first film as a screenwriter.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
When an idea comes it is a miracle. The miracle of creativity. So I do everything to not lose it. I write everywhere but leave it there for a while ‘. Then resume and begin to develop it. Usually I do not make a plan of work but I write as I can and when I can. I can write 40 pages in a day and not write anything for a month. It depends. The important thing is not to lose the idea.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I play football, my passion. I read a lot and I love going to the cinema and theater.
10. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other Writers?
Be yourself and try to astonish the reader. Write only when the miracle of creativity occurs and do everything you can to second it.
