SYMMETRY, Poetry Reading and Interview by Michael Bornn

SYMMETRY, Poetry Reading by Michael Bornn

Poetry performed by actress VAL COLE

Matthew Toffolo interviews Michael Bornn:

Matthew: What is the theme of your poem?

Michael: the theme of this poem is facing the futility of finding closure.

Matthew: How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

Michael: When someone has read a poem and feels the urge to say something to the writer about the piece, it is the greatest reward. it’s also the greatest lesson we can be given about our craft and how well we have done in our attempts to convey what we were feeling. What is said by a reader is pure honesty and always commands my attention and gratitude. no one would ever half heartedly take the trouble to express their indifference to a poem they have half read.

Matthew: How long have you been writing poetry?

Michael: I began writing poems in high school. I won a national award for a poem I wrote when I was in the 11th grade. I think that cured me of the embarrassment I was feeling about my interest in poetry, and allowed me to make it my college major.

Matthew: Do you have a favorite poet?

Michael: I always seem to have a favorite poet and that office has been held be a lot of different writers. when I go back through my work I can almost always see who I was fascinated with at the moment that I wrote any given piece.

Matthew: What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

Michael: I saw a vast spread of styles and techniques represented on the pages of WILDsound and decided I would like to be a part of that community. it’s hard to hang out with the poet next door or the poet down the street from me because I don’t think they exist or I would have met them by now.

Matthew: Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?

Michael: I am currently working on a screen play. if you include the time I spend in the act of work avoidance, as writing, I have probably put hundreds of hours into that project.

Matthew: What is your passion in life?

Michael: Of all the things I most enjoy, I would say sailing is the one I would put at the top of this list out of consideration for my audience. On another list it might be second or third, but always at least a bronze metalist.
