Slowly Dying, Poetry Reading by DCP (plus interview)

Watch Poetry Reading – SLOWLY DYING

Poem read by actor Jason Martorino

Interview with Poetry Writer DCP:

1) What is the theme of your poem?

The theme is heartbreak, to put it simply. Being in love can add meaning to your life and give you new strength and confidence that you may not have had before. Then, when it is gone, it is like color has been drained from life; the body continues to function, but the spirit no longer has a motivation.

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

I’m not sure. I’m just hoping people don’t feel sorry for me. I realize that it may be dark, but the simple act of writing it helped to me to make peace with the past.

3) How long have you been writing poetry?

I did write poetry when I was younger, but I recently picked it up again within the past few years.

4) Do you have a favorite poet?

If I had to choose, it would be a toss-up between Edgar Allan Poe and T.S. Eliot. I remember really, really liking “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” when I first had to read it in high school.

5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

Well, I completed this poem 3 years ago. I didn’t really know that WILDsound did poetry readings. I knew about WILDsound from their screenwriting services. So, when I found out about the poetry readings, I thought, “Why not?”

6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?

I have written song lyrics and a script.

7) What is your passion in life?

Matters of the Spirit.
