Watch the Poetry Reading of LOST IN LOVE:
Poem performed by Holly Scarchfield
Get to know poet Michael Brisdon Bornn:
1) What is the theme of your poem?
Love is the theme of this poem, but specifically the less utopian strains of the thing. Love that occurs without the mythological state of happiness that is so frequently associated with love. It was a much longer poem until I realized there are too many ways that love can fail to be forfilling that one can’t name them all. Even the perfect love we imagine with another person; one who gives us back love in full resiprocity; is a bumpy, bumpy ride. So I decided to pick my favorite three ,or rather, my least favorite three memories of love and keep it simple.
2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry
reading?
I want them to love me so much that they dont pay attention to the details of their own lives and slip into a kind of obsessive preoccupation with what I am feeling at any given time no matter how little I care to know about them. I’m pretty sure I don’t have to say I’m kidding here, but just in case.
3) How long have you been writing poetry?
I have been writing poetry since I was in High School, and it is so hard to admit that because, god, you’d think I’d have gotten to be really a lot slicker at it by now but, well, I love writing poetry and I just try not to let the perfectionism that plagues the rest of my life have a voice here
4) Do you have a favorite poet?
I don’t have a favorite poet or a favorite singer or a favorite painter, because it would feel creepy, Like I was a stalker or something. I have addictive fits of certain peoples works. Then I get sort of a stomach ache and can’t stand the flavor of that writer for a long while until I get over the trauma of all that over indulging on one thing.
5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
I had written a particular piece and needed to post it somewhere just to get it out of my house where it could bother other people and leave me in peace for a while. It really worked. It made other people feel miserable too. And then I was able to bring it back home and not feel so bad about my relationship with the thing.
6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
I am pretending to write a screen play and feeling so hopeful about the delusional process that I am determined to see it to completion.
7) What is your passion in life?
My passion in life is experiencing authenticity. Finding it in people, in fate, in action, in every day the best I can without slipping into the habit of existing the way so many people do to the extent that they do it, so help me god
