FRAGMENTS
by Melissa R. Mendelson

A baby cries to be held.
An eight-year-old
dances around with a beautiful smile
on her angelic face.
A girl shoves boys,
who push her around.
She hides in the corner again.
She stopped smiling,
and depression has set in.
She was innocent and young,
but he spoiled her.
She is now bitter and mean,
and an emptiness has grown.
She almost found happiness,
but her life crumbled into pieces.
The girl is me.
She is now in the mirror
to remind me of who I was,
but she doesn’t tell me
who I am now.
I am nobody,
and my heart is cold.
I cover my face with my hands
and wonder who I am.
