June 12, 2016 – Writing Festival Details

This week’s writing festival is a showcase of the July 2016 winning feature screenplay. Plus, 8 winning short screenplay performance readings.

They will be performed by some of the top actors working in Toronto today.

Here are the details of the screenplays being performed:

Feature Screenplay – FIEND by Jeff York

Genre: Horror, Thriller

When famed Jekyll & Hyde author Robert Louis Stevenson turns out himself to be a dangerous split personality, the only one who can save him and London from his fiendish alter ego is a maverick American psychiatrist with daring, unconventional methods.

Short Screenplay – THE TRENCH by Chris Beadnell

Genre: Action

After successfully shelling the German trench on the Somme battlefield, the British soldiers move in to clear the area of any enemy survivors.

Short Screenplay – STRANGER by Jason Smith

Genre: Drama

A young girl wakes up in the passenger seat of a strangers car.

Short Screenplay – PRO-PETE by Julie Merrick

Genre: Drama

A true friend opens the door to forgiveness.

Short Screenplay – MATERNAL FEAR by Stephen Milek

Genre: Supernatural, Horror

Based on a true story of a mom scared by what she sees on a baby monitor.

Short Screenplay – TREED by Sally Spitzli

Genre: Comedy

This is a black & white silent comedy short with subtitles.

Short Screenplay – THE BLUE DRESS by Dave Riese

Genre: Family, Drama

Rebecca, 12-years-old, learns that her Uncle Wallace, a cattle baron from Texas, is coming to visit. Rebecca doesn’t like her uncle: he belittles her for reading too much and he is condescending toward her father whom he considers a failure. Rebecca’s only hope is that he will bring her a birthstone ring like the one he bought for her cousin the year before.

Short Screenplay – THE FACTS OF LIFE by Chris Beadnell

Genre: Comedy

A loving father must stand up to be counted when he is stunned by a question from his inquisitive daughter.

Short Screenplay – FIRE! by Steve Biggs

Genre: Comedy

A firing squad gets a 9-1-1 call by mistake.
