What is your screenplay about?
The story is about four women who look back at the abusive relationship that each suffered with an almost-famous rock musician and decide to exact their revenge. With the means of retribution at hand, they go to confront their tormentor to gain some measure of satisfaction.
What they get is something completely unexpected.
What genres does your screenplay under?
The screenplay is a character-driven drama with comedic undertones.
Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
Not many films are made today that deal seriously and primarily with women’s thoughts, desires and motivations. If this was made into a film, four female leads would have the opportunity to explore their relationships with not only men, but with one another.
How would you describe this script in two words?
Thought-provoking.
What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
A tie between Dr. Strangelove and The Godfather.
How long have you been working on this screenplay?
Between 2-3 months, pretty much on a daily basis.
How many stories have you written?
Between feature films and TV pilots — thirteen.
What motivated you to write this screenplay?
Being a male writer, I wanted to see if I could write a good story from the point of view of several female characters.
What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
It took me longer to write many of the scenes because I had to constantly ask myself if the female voices were accurately presented and didn’t sound like a male writer trying to sound female. There was considerable re-writing involved.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Music, classic films, Chinese brush painting, tying fishing flies, hockey with my niece’s kids, curling, history, well-written literature, my dog and, above all else, my wife.
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
If you are serious about being a writer, accept that your work is going to be rejected or passed on, and keep writing.
