George Roy Hill was born in Minnesota in 1921, Hill’s early foray into entertainment was as a stage actor. He segued into writing and then directing for television, moving to feature film directing in the 1960s.
1969’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid set George apart as a classic American director, and he won the Best Director Oscar for 1974’s The Sting.
An avid pilot, watch for aircraft featuring prominently in Hill’s films. George Roy Hill died in 2002.
