Interview with Mr. Kim Lee Seagull, (MAY YOUR BEST PERCEIVE ME)

Watch Poem MAY YOUR BEST PERCEIVE ME by Kim Lee Seagull

Interview with Mr. Kim Lee Seagull:

Matthew: What is the theme of your poem?

Kim: This is a romantic poem that I wrote for my French teacher, while I was at The University of Tennessee. I fell in love with her, but she was already spoken for.

Matthew: How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

Kim: I believe that any poet’s muse would cause them to feel the same way that I did, if their love was as great as mine. So may their love be as great as mine, when they read my little verse.

Matthew: How long have you been writing poetry?

Kim: I wrote my first poem when I was 14 years old.

Matthew: Do you have a favorite poet?

Kim: I love any poet that chokes me up, or especially one that gives me the kind of rush that makes me tingle with delight, like the tingling feeling, when a poet teaches you a new Platonic Form. I honestly believe that, that tingling sensation, is the Holy Spirit, and Emily Dickinson’s “I Taste a Liquor Never Brewed,” and John Donne’s, “A Hymn to God the Father,” both sicked the Holy Spirit on me. But there are so many holy poets that do that to me. Perhaps Dickinson could be my favorite poet because she was the one that introduced me to the Holy Spirit first!

Matthew: What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

Kim: I like WILDsound because they do a first rate job of exposing my best poetry to the world, the extent to which, I could never do on my own.

Matthew: Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?

Kim: The only things I have never written are a screenplay, or a children’s book.

Matthew: What is your passion in life?

Kim: I am both a writer and an artist. I’m mostly a portrait artist, doing stippled drawings of people I admire, that taught me something beautiful enough, that when I hear their name I begin to tingle. As a writer, I like to reveal a new Platonic Form by explaining things that have never been done before, and I prefer poetry, because for me it is the most exalted and the most mystical, because perfect lines just pop right into my mind from the transcendent realm. It is as though God writes the poem for me, and all I do is hold the pen, and tingle with delight!
