1. What is your story about?

True Grit,
Is my son’s story, told from my view and Ray’s view. Ray was born with Cerebral Palsy. The doctors tells me at birth that Ray will never walk or talk. He walked and talked at about two years of age. He Graduated with his class, and wrestles in high school. His coach wrote an article about him in the Warren Tribune, newspaper. He gives him the name True Grit because of his courage.

This story has a script ready for film. I start the script, locked in a closet, where Ray’s father often locks me in, to keep me from leaving him. I was pregnant and he would beat me and never working long enough to afford my prenatal care. One day I told him I needed to come out and go to the rest room. I ran to the stairs. He chased me and kicked me down the stairs. I was bleeding so bad he took me to the hospital, that’s when I knew something was wrong with my baby. I didn’t feel right after that. Always paining, Ray came early, and had brain damage.

I divorced and married again, Ray lost his best friend and step-father to Cancer. Depressed and lonely, he left home, moved to another state with a so called friend. He wasn’t taking his medication, and started taking drugs from people that used him. When his money ran out they would put him out, and he would sleep in his car. Trusting that everyone is his friend, being used by people that only cared about using him for
his monthly check. Waking up at times and his wallet stolen.

When Ray he has no money and food, he would eat out of garbage cans. He finally calls home and I sent him a bus ticket. Ray was so frail and weak, he later developed pneumonia. Running a high fever I rush him to the hospital. The doctors says his heart isn’t strong enough to beat on his own. A machine is keeping him alive. Again the doctors gave the wrong diagnosis. I was told to call the family in, he will not live through the night.

I went to the chapel, and had a talk with God. I asked him if he were going to take him, why didn’t he take him at birth? I was abused as a child, as a wife, never feeling love until Ray was born. I told God I need Ray, I need someone to love and need me. God answered my prayers. Ray woke up the next morning. Years later Ray got married and now has his own house, drives a car and doing well. When he got married he told me that he wanted to walk out. I said Ray the women usually walks out. Ray says Mom they sais I will never walk, so I want to beat the Devil and show him I cam walk. He walks out on GOD BLOCKED IT, a perfect song for Ray’s life.
