FORGIVE ME, Poetry Reading by Kenyetta Lewis (with interview)

Watch Poetry Reading of “FORGIVE ME”. performed by actress Erynn Brook:

Matthew Toffolo interviews poet Kenyetta Lewis:

Matthew: What is the theme of your poem?

Kenyetta: Forgiveness.

Matthew: How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

Kenyetta: This is a mother asking her daughter for forgiveness after tearing her child down with her words. Towards middle of poem, it flows like a poetry “jam” session

Matthew: How long have you been writing poetry?

Kenyetta: I started writing in grade school

Matthew: Do you have a favorite poet?

Kenyetta: No. I love so many different types of poetry.

Matthew: What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

Kenyetta: This is my second time. My first time did exactly what I hoped. It allowed me to hear if my writing sounds they way I envision it to be heard as I was writing.

I’m writing my first memoir. When finished, I’m going to take a chance at a short story

Matthew: What is your passion in life?

Kenyetta: My passion is to help other victims of childhood sexual assault and domestic violence to not be ashamed of their past through my poetry and sharing my story. I want the world to talk about this subject and understand how it affects its victims; sometimes leading to PTSD. Together we can break the cycle and help heeling by listening.
