Watch the Poetry Reading of LOOKING THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS:
Poem read by Holly Sarchfield
Get to know Poet Shakuita Johnson:
1) What is the theme of your poem?
The theme of my poem is basically reflection. When I wrote Looking Through The Looking Glass it was all about my past, present, and future…Overcoming things from your past, living in the now, and making goals for the future by speaking them into existence.
2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?
I would like people to be able to relate to the overall concept of the poem. Meaning their past helped to shape their present and future and that no matter what your story it could always be worse. You are alive when others are dead. You may be living pay check to pay check but you have food when others have none.
3) How long have you been writing poetry?
I’ve been writing poetry since I was 12 or 13.
4) Do you have a favorite poet?
So many good ones but I would have to say Robert Frost, Emerson, Maya Angelou, and Thoreau to name a few.
5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
I figured why not. I don’t perform my own poems but I thought it would be cool to see how someone interprets my words. To see how the poem spoke to them and if it’s the same as what I was feeling when I wrote it.
6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
I write paranormal thriller, dark romance, fantasy, and sci fi.
7) What is your passion in life?
My passion is writing and psychology. I want to continue to tell my stories and help troubled children find their way to a rewarding path.
