Get to know Poet Mr Kim Lee Seagull:

1) What is the theme of your poem?

My poem, “My Prayer for your Son,” was written for a mother that had a son with schizophrenia. She was worried about him, so I wrote this poem to console her; to let her know that he’d be fine, and not to worry. If he didn’t fit in, and he loved to write poetry it could possibly mean that he may just be a genius, and the best of his lot, because people with schizophrenia are the aristocrats of poetry and creativity revealing the Platonic Forms in their work and, finding more pleasure than others in the world of the most creative, and that is loves burning seed.

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

I would like them to see that a young fellow with schizophrenia has more to offer the world than most can imagine.

3) How long have you been writing poetry?

I have been writing poetry since I was in grade 9 in high school.

4) Do you have a favorite poet?

Emily Dickinson is most likely my favorite poet because she exposes the Platonic Form in her work, which makes me tingle with delight.

5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?

Wildsound can give my poetry wide exposure, and it is fun to see the poem performed by a professional actor.

6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?

I have not written children’s books or a screenplay, but I have written everything else.

7) What is your passion in life?

I’m a playwright but I get most of my joy from writing poetry and drawing with ink.
