The Writer’s Pond
by Florence Onyango
After skirting around the writer’s pond,
I finally decide to dip my toe in the water.
The water is cold.
The water is dark and subfuscous.
My imagination travels into the depths of these waters,
what lies beneath is the boogeyman under my bed.
Why would I want to leave the warmth of the sun to plunge myself into this pit of ice?
The thought alone gave me goosebumps.
Yet there is a luring euphony that calls to me from the quiescent water,
a clairaudience of stories untold beckon from a treasure chest of imagination.
I dip my toe into the water and wait,
then my legs and wait and finally I plunge into the writer’s pond.
As I brave through the cold,
the water becomes warmer and warmer…
