Origami, Poetry by Alison Dizon

Genres: Love and change

Origami
by Alison Dizon

in your hands I was manipulated
wrapped around your fingers
you pulled on my corners
I was scared to be torn
you creased me in places I can never repair
you cut off some of me
small but nonetheless still my parts
you made hanging ends meet
folded perfectly along the lines
you made me as beautiful as a butterfly
as delicate as a rose
but I was still paper
and the things I had written on me are forever there
just not as noticeable as before
not as angry , not as resentful
in fact , these nonsensical scribbles made me more
unique , you said
syllables jutting out from all corners and curves
became harmless , artistic
and I was changed
yet still the same piece of paper
you once held lovingly in your hands
