Watch CONSUMER Poetry Reading:
Poetry Performed by actress Maya Woloszyn
Get to know poet Jeremy Duhart:
1) What is the theme of your poem?
The theme of my poem is consumerism. I take on the perspective of a gullible, wealthy consumer who has surrounded their life with products. A shopaholic of sorts, yet still ordinary.
2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?
I would like for them to respond with perhaps laughter, a feeling of familiarity, and to be provoked to think about the consumerist society that we live in. Is it good, bad, or neither?
3) How long have you been writing poetry?
Two years maybe. I still consider myself an amateur writer considering how long I’ve been writing.
4) Do you have a favorite poet?
Not really. I’ve read plenty of poets but none of them have stuck with me as a favorite. If we bring in rappers into the category of poets, then sure I have a few. My favorite hip hop artist, if I absolutely had to choose, would be Talib Kweli.
5) What influenced you to submit to WILDsound and have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
I got a follow from them on twitter and I checked out their website. I was interested in what I saw, so I decided to give it a try.
6) Do you write other works? Scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
I have some articles on my website that I have wrote, blog style type of articles. That’s about all that I’ve ever written. I’m experimenting with short stories in poetry format.
7) What is your passion in life?
Poetry, writing, music, people. I’m a big fan of psychology and sociology. Most of my content is within those arenas of study. I love podcasts too, and learning in general. Also, video games. I can get lost in those for hours.
