Daddy Warm Me Up
by: Lexys Yocom

Daddy I am cold
The blankets of mommy’s words can’t warm me up
The millions of goosebumps on my skin
Each a minute thinking of where you went
Why can’t I find comfort?

Daddy I’m chilly
The fire of passion I have to find you can’t warm me up
The chills going down my spine
Each a thought of what you might sound like if you said my name
Why can’t I find comfort?

Daddy I’m bleak
The space heater of support from my peers and family can’t warm me up
The many breaths I have taken of frigid air
Each a moment I thought I should waste my oxygen on asking mommy if I could see you
Why can’t I find comfort?

Daddy I’m frosty
The warm hot chocolate of other boys’ attention can’t warm me up
The hundreds of hugs and kisses
Each a butterfly in my stomache I am trying to replace with a moth
Why can’t I find comfort?

Daddy I’m freezing
The gloves in my head protecting my heart can’t warm me up
The icesicles hanging
Each a tear shed but frozen in time since I’ve never seen you
Why can’t I find comfort

Daddy, I’m not warm
The absence of your love can’t warm me up
The thousands of cold dayd
Each a memory never made with you
Why can’t I find comfort?
