Get to know the writer Lisa Dunbar:
1. What is your story about?
My story is about two young boys Daron Greenlay and Brutus Amos. Daron and Brutus become victims in an abused environment. When Daron’s Grandparents who are Vivian and Chandler Housing have Daron and Brutus in their home Vivian and Chandler end up putting Daron and Brutus in an orphanage. Daron lost both of his parents. Daron’s mother dies in a car wreck in the beginning of the story. Daron’s father hangs himself in the living room of his home. Daron and Brutus have no one to take care of them until a police officer who is Howard Carter and his wife Jodie ends up adopting the two boys at the end of the story.
2. Why should people know this story?
People should know this story because this story is about child abuse. Child abuse is something that people need to pay attention to. Some where every few minutes there is a innocent child being abused. Rather that abuse is emotional, verbal, or even physical it’s still abuse. No child should be abused and I wanted to bring up child abuse because it is something that should be taken seriously.
3. This story has a lot going for it. How would you describe this story in two words?
I would describe this story as amazing and helpful. It’s amazing of what those two young boys go through. It’s helpful because it can help people learn about child abuse.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
The movie that I have seen the most in my life would have to be “Enter The Dragon.”
5. How long have you been working on this story?
I wrote “The Great Tragedy” as a book it four months to write. “The Great Tragedy” was published in 2014. Then I wrote the screenplay. The screenplay took a month to write which was last year. Ever since last year I’ve been trying to find someone who could make it into a movie.
6. How many stories have you written?
I have written six stories so far that are published. I have one story that I wrote that is not published. I have a book of poems that I have published.
7. What motivated you to write this story?
What motivated me to write this story is child abuse. I want people to know just how serious it is. Another thing that motivated me to write this story is that I wanted to make a difference in the world. No child should be abused. It’s one of the things that can be prevented.
8. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Other than writing I am passionate about music, art, and history.
9. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
My advice to the other writers. Keep your head up. Don’t let no one stop you from doing what you love. Go for your dreams and aim high. Let your head touch the clouds. Your dreams can come true. Don’t give up. If you feel like you’ve failed. Keep trying. That’s what I tell my friends.
