His Melodic Apologies by Forrest Jamie

He spends a lot of the time apologizing to me
for the days that go by between texts and a life so busy.
I think I’ve learned something important, though;
I can’t have someone like that in my life –
someone so fickle.
not right now.
As much as that pains me to admit,
for my own recovery and sanity,
I know I need someone dependable and constant.
And he’ll just apologize again,
with some more empty comments and half-promises.
This sinking feeling in my heart and stomach
knowing I’m letting go
of someone so important
because
I can’t count on him.
