South Bound
by Ruth Andrews Garnes
I got lost at fifteen.
I had many painful days,
Trying to do my own thing.
I wished it wasn’t that way.
I’ve learned a few things.
the street struggle is real.
And it wasn’t the life for me
though my life was not ideal.
Took a South bound train.
am going back home.
South bound to where I belong.
But free from all my chains.
Trying to better my situation.
I was a strong will teen.
Determined to live my dreams.
It wasn’t as I imagined.
The streets filled with thugs.
Was forced to sell my body.
They offered me drugs.
But not a single movie deal.
