Full of surprises

And oh -my love- my one night stand on the rebound who has stuck by me how could we have known?

With the nativity of our youth we thought that we were wise. We saw the pitfalls of our family heirlooms. We knew about the painful slowing rush of loss.

We had laughed in the face of sufficient disaster to smile as we said the words.

And the sickness and the health have come and gone.

And we have stood, as we promised, together.

We have weathered the storms and the sun’s alike.

We have faltered, wavered, but never yet stalled.

And so we sit here tonight, as the year draws in, and we nod our heads in time, to the rhythm of our pain.
