Get to know Poet Gene Cartwright:

1) What is the theme of your poem?

I suppose the theme is: pause to reflect. I want to highlight the importance of leaving the beaten path, and reflecting upon the small treasures in life we often overlook.

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your poetry reading?

I would not want to prescribe a response, except to encourage each person to feel each word, personalize them, and create their own images.

3) How long have you been writing poetry?

I am the author of 8 novels, and a book of poetry, “Still Dreaming”. My mother taught me to read when I was three. I wrote my first poem in 1st grade; wrote my first novel at age12 (longhand), and still remember the full story.
