Director Biography

Phil has been making short films for ten years now, ever since his first high school video project required him to film a scene from “Hamlet” and he delivered a twenty minute adaptation of the play, complete with several sword fights. Phil was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He earned a bachelor of arts in film/video production from Grand Valley State University. To help him make better fight scenes, Phil has extensively studied stage combat and is a certified actor/combatant in the Society of American Fight Directors.

Director Statement

“Viking Toothache” was a film inspired by specific moments of the Icelandic Sagas and the actual tales passed down through history about the Vikings. The film combines the historic narrative and dark humor of the Viking sagas and the cinematic style of the American Western genre.
