I loved Robert Altman. Even though we only made M.A.S.H. (1970) and Brewster McCloud (1970), he offered me McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) and I had to turn it down to do Harold and Maude (1971). But I never got over working under his supreme command and imagination. I adored Hal Ashby – he let me go to the limit and beyond and was always there to catch me.
