A retired gunman, Will Kincaid, returns from a cattle drive and believing his brother, Jed, has the local clumsy laundress, Annie, in the family way, he marries her himself only to discover she’s a virgin. Not to mention her cooking skills are lacking, and the catastrophes in the kitchen laughable to everyone but Will.

Will tries to talk her into divorcing him and when he allows his ex-fiance to move back into their home, it’s the final straw for Annie. She leaves him, moves back to town and finds she’s the beneficiary of her deceased uncle’s fortune but to inherit it, she must marry and bear children within three years.
