Matthew Toffolo: What is your screenplay about?

Charles Leipart: France, the 17th Century: In the crucial year 1683 of Louis XIV’s reign, after a series of notorious poisoning and witchcraft trials, Affair of the Poisons follows the adventures of Marie-Claire, 16, a young convent girl, who travels to Versailles to investigate the circumstances of her older sister’s sudden death. Marie-Claire becomes involved in a labyrinth of duplicity, tangled in the intrigue of court politics.

Thematically, the tale treats of female victimhood transformed into female empowerment within an autocratic, male-dominated society. The Ladies take control and turn things around—Relevance for our current state of national affairs.
