Director Biography – Vivian Vivas (SANKOFA)

Vivian Vivas is an artist with a strong background in photography, video, performance, and film. Her work seeks to invite conversations about cultural and philosophical issues through experimental art forms and interrogate the role of art in culture. From extensive travel focused on indigenous cultures, rituals, and aesthetics, Vivian infuses visual anthropology, sound, movement, and performance in her work. An interest in photography that began in childhood has taken Vivian around the world as an artist. She has traveled in South America, India, and Africa, documenting indigenous communities to experience the roots of their culture and traditions and express them in an experimental way.
