Matthew Toffolo interviewed Jeff and Ben, the creative team behind the short film “Burnouts.” They discussed the autobiographical nature of the film, which is about two friends in their twenties experiencing an existential crisis. Jeff shared details about the production process, including the challenges of balancing day jobs, shooting in extreme heat, and the importance of their core team. They explained their inspiration from early 2000s comedies and aimed to create a “smart stupid” comedy with a specific target audience. The post-production process was lengthy, with Jeff re-editing the film from scratch after an initial screening. They also revealed that they are working on a feature-length version of “Burnouts,” which will be a road trip comedy involving a VHS tape and the last Blockbuster in Bend, Oregon.
