Genre: tongue in cheek, spiritual
The Breakup
by ELEANOR HEALY
Vodka shots, cookie dough and sad tissues
don’t hold shit for this situation.
This is spiritual.
Like being torn from the arms of God,
to face the wall while the rest of you
eat towering banana splits.
This is bigger than romcoms
and weeping girls with cutting clavicles.
This is spiritual.
Like wake up and smell the coffee
this happens only once
and only to you.
This is spiritual.
This is as cold as it gets
so drop your knee caps to the soiled stone.
And they tell you—breathe
until you levitate.
And they tell you–open your reluctant arms
for the surely coming grace.
This is spiritual.
And there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it.
