May 22, 2016 – Writing Festival Details

This week’s Writing Festival is a showcase of the winning Fan Fiction screenplay, plus the 3 1st scene screenplay winners. We have also added 2 best scene script readings, and a winning short screenplay. 

They will be performed by some of the top actors working in Toronto today.

Here are the details of the screenplays being performed:

#1 – Fan Fiction TV Spec – SPACE 2099 (Based on the television series Space: 1999), by  Gerry and Sylvia Anderson

Genre: Sci-Fi, Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Synopsis: The commander of Moonbase Alpha must prevent a terrorist group, led by an old adversary, from taking over a nuclear refinery.

#2 – 1st Scene – WHEN THERE WAS TIME, by James Gillard, Kevin McGruder

Genre: Crime, Mystery, Thriller

Synopsis: When a drug dealer is killed in Harlem, NY, a corrupt cop is ordered to solve the case.  A conscious witness in the community steps forward.

#3 – 1st Scene – STARBOUND, by Alex A. Kecskes

Genre: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Action

Synopsis: Ancient, alien DNA turns a retarded teen into a powerful, gifted emissary to an advanced civilization that visited earth millennia ago.

#4 – 1st Scene – EXISTENTIAL QUANDARY, by Brandon Maline

Genre: Horror, Thriller, Crime

Synopsis:  A serial killer who turns his victims bodies into works of art becomesfixated on a little girl. She has dreams of him and thinks he is her angel, her mother pays little attention to it until the girl makes a model of the murderer.

#5 – Short Screenplay – LESS THAN HOMELESS, by Allan B. Hill

Genre: Romance, Comedy

Synopsis: Grace is not dealing well with a recent break up.  Her best friend Emily suggests going to the gym to help her get over the painful experience.

#6 – Best Scene from LONG IN THE TOOTH, by Mark Wasserman

Genre: Horror, Drama

Synopsis: Lonesome, irritable widower Fred Pierce is a senior citizen with bad teeth who lives in a depressing retirement community in a small New England town. One evening, while conversing with his dead wife in the town cemetery he meets Goth kids Bo and Tana.

#7 – Best Scene from IX, by Eric Irizarry

Genre: Horror, Thriller

Synopsis: A group of kidnap victims endure a sick game by nine killers of a death cult: Leave the room and you die. Stay and live through the fear.
