Get to know writer Michael Faunce-Brown:
1. What is the theme of your novel?
The ease with which child traffickers operate and the huge scale. How they should be smashed.
2. Why do people need to know about your story?
To make all parents aware of how vulnerable their children are.
3. How long have you been writing stories?
For over twenty years, but I made up instant stories as a child for other boys, aged eleven to twelve in my dormitory.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
Pay it Forward. and To Kill a Mockingbird.
5. What artists would you love to work with?
Quentin Tarentino as a Director and Ewan McGregor as an actor.
6. How many stories have you written?
Fifteen full length film scripts, seven books including my autobiography, Blowing My Own Trumpet.
7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?
Having had some of my film scripts produced and sold. Being known as an author.
8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?
I get an idea, collect the main characters in my mind, plus their locations, put them in jeopardy or trouble and they create the story for me.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Playing Music in groups, Travel, Liaising with interesting people.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival?
The hope that it will help me find an agent, director or producer, who will advance my films and books. It is most frustrating being told by many how much they enjoy my writing and yet remaining unknown.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Create characters with whom people relate. Write stories that switch people on. Avoid padding. Learn which analysts are worth sticking with. Some haven’t lived and their advice is irrelevant or empty. Others are great. Humour and emotion help. If what you have written makes you cry or tremble, you are on the right road. Aim for a satisfying and happy ending.
