1st Scene Performance: ETERNITY, by Kevin Bibo (plus interview)

Watch the Winning 1st Scene Script Reading of ETERNITY:

Get to know writer Kevin Bibo:

1. What is your screenplay about?

Eternity is the story of a retiring teacher who learns to support his family in spite of his personal disapproval of them as he heals wounds left behind by his father.

2. Why should this script be made into a movie?

Eternity is an honest portrayal of family life and struggling relationships today, and in the 1950s. It challenges the audience by showing familiar characterizations in unfamiliar circumstances. It employs both linear and nonlinear storytelling. It also challenges traditional views of Christianity. Ultimately, love of family prevails.

3. How long have you been writing stories?

40 years. I produced my first play when I was 8 using my parent’s garage as a stage and casting my neighborhood friends.

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Singin’ in the Rain.

5. What artists would you love to work with?

Anyone who shows up on time and works hard.

6. How many stories/screenplays have you written?

Three complete features and a handful of one-acts (http://screenwriterbibo.blogspot.com/). Last year one of my screenplays was recognized as a finalist in the Thriller category of the Hollywood Screenplay Contest. I’ve also written over 100 essays on educational topics (http://calteacherblog.blogspot.com/), and the media arts curriculum manual for the courses I teach.

7. Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Sitting in a movie theatre watching a film I wrote flickering on the screen.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I like Robert McKey’s process, and Stephen King’s schedule.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about education. I have taught in public school for 20 years. I teach media arts and screenwriting to high school students. I also teach teachers at the graduate level. I am currently seeking an administrative position. I am also a board member of SLATE inc. who produces an annual film and beer festival in California (http://slate-inc.org/).

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival?

Film Freeway.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Write something everyday.
